The government uses the money we pay in tax to invest back into the community, like build and maintain roads, parks.Any person who earns an income has to pay tax. We have different tax rates to make sure tax is fair. The more money you earn, the higher the rate of tax you have to pay.The Australian Taxation Office assigns individuals with an income a unique number, to identify them and make sure they are paying tax.You have to fill out a tax return every year during which you earn money. The Australian Tax Office will then calculate whether you have paid too much tax or too little tax .You must lodge a return Individuals, if you earn less that $6,000 in the year .You must lodge a return if you are 18 years or older and for people who are under 18 years of age,they must lodge a return if the total taxable income is over $643 per year.Certain expenses may be deducted from an individual’s tax.  You should check with the Australian Taxation Office before you claim deductions.

1948 Engaged in resistance against the ruling National Party's apartheid policies
1956 went on trail for treason
1961         acquitted,the ANC considered his proposal on the use of violent tactics and agreed members who  wished to involve themselves in Mandela's campaign
1962 arrested,sentenced to five years' imprisonment with hard labour.
1964s eight of the accused were sentenced to life imprisonment,incarcerated at Robben Island prison
1990 released,plunged himself into his life's work
1991 elected president of the ANC
